Setting up map specific settings

As well as a game type list and a map list you can create a different settings file for each map or just one map with certain setting and the rest use other settings. In other words you can have maps that use different settings files for the same mod. Confused? Oop sorry!. Lets say you turned map specific settings on for “camper.txt”, now when the game loads up dm/mohdm1 it will look for camper_dmmohdm1,txt. If this file is not found it would load camper.txt. This way you create new copies of camper.txt with the map console name for maps you want to have unique settings. Some advantages of this are that different maps can be setup and played differently promoting a different experience for the players on each map. The weapons limiter for example could be setup to disable some weapons on certain maps and allow them on others, make a map sniper only or just to have something different for everyone.

Turn Map Specific On

To turn it on for a settings file locate settings/mods.txt. Open this file in a text editor like notepad or WordPad.  Scroll down past the list of mods to the list of settings files. Now scroll across to the 4th section. This section is for map specific settings. Most will be set off. For all the on/off type settings in this mod “0” means off and “1” means on.

Let’s turn map specific settings on for “camper” settings file. So find which one is the camper settings file. You will find it is the top one. To to turn map specific setting on we then change the 0 to a 1.

Now the map specific settings for the camper.txt settings file is turned on. The next step is to make some settings files for maps.

Making Map Specific Settings Files

For creating the map specific setting file I will use the “camper.txt” for an example. Like with map list's you need to find the name of the map.  So turn on your map and then in console type 'mapname'. A name like 'dm/mohdm1' will appear. Remember or write this down. If you get the name wrong the file will not load.

Let’s say the map is named "dm/mohdm2" and we want the settings for camper.txt to load a dm2 specific file. We would create a new file and name it camper_dmmohdm2.txt.

it would be a good idea to copy and paste the original camper.txt and then change the name of the copy. Once done then open it for editing.

Keep the original

You do not have to make a setting file for every single map! You can just have camper.txt and then have one map different camper_dmmohdm2.txt. All other maps would load camper.txt instead.
